Short answer: To apply for a Schengen visa from the Philippines, choose the country of your main destination, then book its local partner: VFS Global for Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, TLScontact for France, or BLS International for Spain. Adults pay €90, collected in pesos. A flight reservation for visa costs $15 per person.
Filipino passport holders need a Schengen short-stay visa to visit any of the 29 Schengen countries for tourism, family visits, business or short events of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. One visa covers the whole area, but in the Philippines the centre you book depends on which country is your main destination. Germany, Italy and the Netherlands use VFS Global. France uses TLScontact in Manila and Cebu. Spain uses BLS International in Makati and Cebu.
This guide is for applicants living in the Philippines. It is not a rewrite of our Schengen short-stay guide for India: the partners, cities and document rules here are different. It maps which centre handles which country, walks through Germany's tourism checklist with PSA documents and bank certificates, covers the Dutch unique-code form and 59-month rule, lists fees in euro and pesos, and explains waiting times. For a non-Schengen trip to Korea, see our South Korea visa from the Philippines guide.

Do Filipinos Need a Schengen Visa?
Yes. Filipino ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay visa for tourism, family visits, business, short study and other short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The European Commission lists the 29 Schengen countries. One visa covers travel across that area. The United Kingdom, Ireland and South Korea are outside Schengen and need their own visas.
Apply to the country of your main destination: the place where you spend the most nights, or where the main purpose of the trip is. If stays are equal, apply to the country you enter first. Your flight and hotel plan should show the same country as the centre you book.
Where Filipinos Apply: VFS, TLS or BLS
The Philippines, like Nigeria, does not use one partner for every Schengen country. Use this map of official partners, then open that country's own page before you book.

|---|---|
| Germany | VFS Global in Manila (Makati Circuit), Cebu or Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea). |
| Netherlands (and Latvia) | VFS Global in Makati or Cebu; open to residents of the Philippines, Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau. |
| Italy | VFS Global in Taguig, Cebu, Batangas and Davao; walk-in available for a fee, or book online. |
| France | TLScontact in Manila (Makati) and Cebu, after completing France-Visas. |
| Spain | BLS International in Makati and Cebu, official partner of the Embassy of Spain. |
| Other Schengen countries | Check that country's Philippines page for its partner and cities. |

Germany Tourism Checklist for Filipinos
The German Embassy's tourism list is one of the most detailed origin-specific checklists in the Philippines. Submit one original and one A4 copy of each document:
- Passport valid at least 3 months after your return from Germany.
- Printed, signed application form.
- Two biometric photos; glue one to the form.
- Visa fee of €90, payable in PHP (€45 for ages 6 to 11; free under 6 and for spouses or minor children of German or EU nationals).
- Itinerary, preferably handwritten, listing only places and dates, with matching hotel reservations.
- Original bank certificate and bank statements for the last 6 months, or a host's original formal obligation under German law.
- Proof of ties to the Philippines: work contract and bank statements showing the last 6 salary credits if employed; business registration, tax returns and 6 months of statements if self-employed; school certificate if a student. Statements must show the account opening date and the average balance.
- Approved leave of absence if employed; original land title if you own property; PSA marriage or birth certificates if married or you have minor children.
- Copy of previous Schengen visas or visas for Canada, the USA or the UK, if any.
- If you are a first-time traveller to Germany, an informal declaration explaining why you will return to the Philippines before the visa expires, with proof.
- Travel health insurance; the Embassy publishes a recommended list of companies.
PSA documents
Birth certificates must be issued on security paper (SECPA) by the Philippine Statistics Authority. They do not need DFA authentication or German legalisation. Foreign documents not issued in the Philippines or Germany need legalisation or an apostille. Documents not in German or English need a recognised translation.
Children
Parents with legal custody must appear with their passports or IDs. If a parent lives abroad, a written consent with a signature authenticated by the competent German mission or a local German authority is required. Add a PSA death certificate or a custody court order where relevant, and the child's PSA birth certificate. After the visa is issued, check whether a DSWD travel permit is needed if the child travels without the custodial parent.
After the visa
The Embassy reminds applicants to check Philippine exit requirements themselves; it cannot advise or support on that step.
Netherlands From the Philippines: Form Code and Biometrics
NetherlandsWorldwide's Philippines process matches its other countries in several places that matter for your file:
- Fill in the Schengen form online yourself so you receive a form with a unique code. Do not use someone else's form.
- Use the checklist that matches your main purpose: tourism, family visit, business, study or events, medical, seafarers, or family members of EU, EEA or Swiss citizens.
- Book your own VFS appointment, one per person, between 6 months and 15 days before travel (9 months for seafarers).
- At VFS, submit documents, give fingerprints if required, answer questions, pay and choose collection or courier.
Can someone else submit?
Yes, if you are 12 or older, you applied in person for a Schengen, airport transit or entry visa within the past 59 months, and fingerprints were taken then. The person needs a signed authorisation letter, their passport and a copy, and all your checklist documents. Fingerprints stored in the Visa Information System can be copied by the Dutch Ministry, but VFS cannot check them, so you may still be asked to return. You can choose to give fingerprints again at the appointment to avoid that.
Check the visa
When processing ends you get an email that does not say whether the visa was approved. Check your name and validity dates as soon as you have the passport. If anything is wrong, email the Dutch Embassy in Manila at man-ca@minbuza.nl before you travel.
Fees and Processing Time
The EU fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 12. Germany collects it in Philippine pesos. Children under 6 and spouses or minor children of German or EU nationals are free on the German lists. VFS, TLS and BLS each add their own service fee in pesos, shown when you book.
| Mission guidance | Timing |
|---|---|
| Germany (Embassy Manila) | About 15 calendar days from the application day; Port Moresby files need at least 30 days |
| Netherlands | Follow NetherlandsWorldwide waiting times; apply at least 15 days ahead |
| France (TLS) | Submit short-stay files at least 15 days before departure; not more than 6 months ahead |
| Spain (BLS) | Follow the Embassy and BLS appointment calendar |
Apply early for summer and Christmas travel, when VFS and TLS slots in Manila and Cebu fill quickly. Optional partner services such as SMS updates, courier return or premium lounges cost extra in pesos and never change the mission decision, so treat them as convenience only. Confirm the peso amount for the visa fee and the service fee on the appointment day, because exchange rates and partner tariffs can move without notice. Bring a little extra cash in pesos for photocopies or small centre charges.
Business, Fairs and Seafarers
Not every Filipino Schengen file is a holiday. The German Embassy publishes separate lists for business trips, fair visitors or exhibitors, and seamen joining a ship in Germany.
Business
Add an official invitation on German company letterhead explaining the purpose of travel. If you travel for a Philippine employer, add the company letter. If the Philippine company pays, include a covering letter with an original bank certificate for the company account, not yours. If the German side pays, the covering letter should state that costs are borne under the German Aliens Act rules the Embassy cites. Rootedness evidence still applies, including PSA documents where relevant.
Fairs
Exhibitors bring an exhibitor pass or confirmation; visitors bring an entry pass and a confirmation letter from at least one exhibitor for a business appointment at the fair, plus promotional material and proof that the company activity relates to the fair. Proof of funds follows the same company-or-host pattern as business files.
Seafarers
Seamen who join a ship in Germany that travels in international waters submit through VFS with a POEA employment certificate, a guarantee letter from the local German shipping agency not older than 12 months, the crew list, seaman book, insurance for the first stay in Germany, a signed travel-health-insurance declaration and copies of previous Schengen visas. Passport validity for seafarers must run at least three months after the visa expires.
The Netherlands also publishes a seafarers checklist and allows applications up to 9 months ahead for that category. Use the checklist that matches your primary purpose; if you have more than one purpose, NetherlandsWorldwide says to pick the primary one.
Flight Reservations for a Schengen Visa From the Philippines
Germany asks for an itinerary and hotel plan that match your actual travel. The Netherlands asks for a travel reservation in your name. Both rules are met by a verifiable reservation rather than a paid ticket bought before the decision.
- BookForVisa reservations cost a flat $15 per person and include a real PNR that can be checked.
- Each reservation is valid for 48-72 hours, so time it close to your appointment.
- Date changes are free on the booking day only.
- It can be issued even while you are at the visa centre.
- It works for visa applications and for onward-travel proof.
Keep the dates identical across the form, cover letter, leave approval, hotels and flight reservation. If you use another provider, a dummy ticket should still be verifiable and point to the country whose centre you booked.

Italy Walk-Ins and France-Visas Steps
Italy is one of the few Schengen destinations in the Philippines that still offers a walk-in option at VFS. The Italian Embassy says you may visit one of the four centres without a prior appointment and submit using the walk-in service, subject to an additional fee, or book online in the usual way. Diplomatic and adoption visas stay at the Embassy Visa Office by email appointment only, Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 12:00.
For France, complete the form on France-Visas before you touch TLS. Only after that can you schedule Manila or Cebu. Applications lodged in the Philippines are examined by the Embassy of France in Manila alone. TLS lists a call centre on (+63) 288416060 and accepts short-stay files from 15 days to 6 months before departure.
Spain appointment rules
BLS Manila states that every applicant must book online before submission and that walk-ins are not allowed. Passports are collected in person during the afternoon window on its contact page. If you live in the Visayas or Mindanao, the Cebu BLS office at Ayala Life FGU Center may save a trip to Makati; confirm hours on the BLS site before you travel.
Proof of Ties and First-Time Travellers
German tourism files put unusual weight on "rootedness" in the Philippines. Employed applicants show a work contract, six months of salary credits and approved leave. Self-employed applicants show registration, commercial activity, tax returns and six months of bank statements on bank paper. Property owners can add the original land title. Married applicants and parents add PSA marriage or birth certificates.
If you have never been to Germany, the Embassy asks for an informal declaration explaining what will bring you back to the Philippines before the visa expires, with proof attached. That letter is separate from a cover letter about your itinerary. Write it in plain English, sign it by hand, and attach evidence such as ongoing employment, studies, property or dependent family members.
Copies of earlier Schengen visas, or visas for Canada, the United States or the United Kingdom, help show travel history. They are listed as optional on the German tourism checklist, but they are useful when you have them.
After You Submit in the Philippines
VFS, TLS and BLS each give a reference number for tracking. The mission decides; the partner only receives the file and returns the passport. When processing ends, Dutch applicants get an email that does not say whether the visa was approved. Collect the passport yourself with ID and the payment proof, or send someone with a signed authorisation letter plus their ID and your payment proof.
Check the sticker immediately. NetherlandsWorldwide gives an example of a visa you cannot use: one whose validity starts later than the flight dates in your application. Email the Dutch Embassy in Manila at man-ca@minbuza.nl if anything is wrong. For German visas, incomplete files may already have been decided on what you submitted, so a clean new application is often faster than arguing about a thin file.
Philippine exit rules
After the visa is issued, check Philippine immigration and, for minors travelling without both parents, DSWD travel-permit rules. The German Embassy states clearly that it cannot advise or support on Philippine exit requirements. Build that step into your timeline so you are not stuck at the airport with a valid Schengen visa and incomplete local departure papers.
Keep scanned copies of the full submission on your phone and in email. If the mission asks for one more document by a deadline, or if you need to reapply after a refusal, having the same file ready saves days that appointment calendars in Manila and Cebu will not give back during peak season.
Planning Timeline for Filipino Applicants
A practical plan for a spring trip to Europe looks like this:
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| 3 to 4 months before | Fix your itinerary and main destination; check passport validity three months beyond return. |
| 10 to 12 weeks before | Request PSA certificates, a bank certificate and six months of statements with opening date and average balance. |
| 8 to 10 weeks before | Complete France-Visas, the Dutch unique-code form or the national form; book VFS, TLS or BLS. |
| Appointment week | Buy €30,000 insurance; get a flight reservation and hotels that match your main destination; print originals and copies. |
| After submission | Allow about 15 calendar days (30 from Port Moresby); check the visa sticker; then sort Philippine exit requirements. |
| Buffer week | Hold off buying non-flexible tickets until the sticker is checked; use the buffer for any DSWD or immigration paperwork. |
Manila and Cebu slots disappear quickly before Holy Week, the mid-year school break and Christmas. If you need Italy, decide early whether you will book online or risk the walk-in fee and queue.
Couples and families should book every applicant on the same day where the partner allows it, so that invitations, hotel bookings and flight reservations stay aligned. If one file is delayed for missing PSA papers, the others can still be decided, which is why each adult should carry a complete personal set of bank and employment evidence rather than relying on a single shared folder.
Common Mistakes Filipino Applicants Make
- Wrong partner for the trip. Booking BLS Spain for a Germany-heavy itinerary, or VFS Germany for a France-heavy trip, breaks the main-destination rule.
- Bank statements without opening date or average balance. Germany's checklist asks for both on the statements.
- Missing PSA security paper. Birth certificates must be PSA SECPA issues.
- Someone else's Dutch form. Only your own online form with its unique code is accepted.
- Paying an agent to book VFS for the Netherlands. NetherlandsWorldwide tells applicants to book themselves.
- First-time Germany file without a return declaration. The Embassy asks first-time travellers for an informal letter on why they will return.
- Ignoring Philippine exit rules. After the visa is issued, check DSWD and immigration exit requirements yourself.
If Your Schengen Visa Is Refused
A refusal letter explains the reasons. For Dutch applications, NetherlandsWorldwide describes how to object. For German applications, incomplete files may already have been decided on what you submitted, so a new complete application is often the practical next step. Strengthen the parts the letter names: main destination, funds, ties to the Philippines and a consistent itinerary.
How This Differs From Schengen From India
Filipinos searching generically for Schengen advice often land on India-focused posts. The process shares the EU fee, the 90/180 rule and the main-destination test, but the ground network is different:
- India leans heavily on VFS and BLS by country; the Philippines splits Germany, Italy and the Netherlands to VFS, France to TLS, and Spain to BLS.
- Germany in the Philippines publishes PSA, bank-certificate and first-time return-declaration rules that do not appear on the Indian Swiss or Italian checklists in the same form.
- The Netherlands in the Philippines uses Makati and Cebu only, not a 12-city Indian network, and also takes Latvia applications there.
- Italy offers walk-in VFS submission in four Philippine cities; that option is not the standard path in India.
Use this page for the Philippine map of centres and documents. Use country-specific India guides when you are applying from India. Linking the two in one browser tab is fine for comparison; submitting the wrong centre checklist is not.
The same logic applies inside the Philippines: a Germany VFS file is not interchangeable with a France TLS file. Insurance certificates, invitation letters and flight reservations should name the country whose mission will decide, and the nights in your hotel plan should make that country the longest stay or the clear purpose of the trip.
Schengen Visa Checklist From the Philippines
- Confirm your main Schengen destination.
- Open that country's Philippines page and note VFS, TLS or BLS.
- Complete the required form (France-Visas, Dutch unique-code form or national form).
- Gather the destination checklist, including PSA documents where asked.
- Get a bank certificate and 6 months of statements with opening date and average balance for Germany, or the funds proof your checklist names.
- Buy €30,000 insurance and a flight reservation that matches your main destination.
- Book VFS, TLS or BLS between 6 months and 15 days before travel.
- Attend, pay the €90 fee in pesos where required, and allow about 15 days for the decision.
Booked your VFS, TLS or BLS slot? Get a flight or hotel reservation with a real PNR for $15 per person, matched to your form dates, and it can be issued even while you are at the visa centre.
Book your visa reservationFrequently Asked Questions
How do I apply for a Schengen visa from the Philippines?
Choose the Schengen country of your main destination, complete its form, then book the local partner that serves that country. Germany, Italy and the Netherlands use VFS Global, France uses TLScontact in Manila and Cebu, and Spain uses BLS International in Makati and Cebu. Attend in person with your documents and biometrics.
How much is the Schengen visa fee in the Philippines?
The EU fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 12. Germany collects it in Philippine pesos. Children under 6, and spouses or minor children of German or EU nationals on the German lists, pay no visa fee. VFS, TLS and BLS each add their own service fee in pesos when you book.
Where do I apply for a Germany visa in the Philippines?
Submit in person at VFS Global in Manila at Makati Circuit, in Cebu, or in Port Moresby for applicants from Papua New Guinea. The German Embassy in Manila decides every file. Processing takes about 15 calendar days, and Port Moresby files need at least 30 days because of courier time to Manila.
Can I apply for a Netherlands visa in Cebu?
Yes. NetherlandsWorldwide sends applicants to VFS Global in Makati or Cebu if they live in the Philippines, Marshall Islands, Micronesia or Palau. You can also apply there for a Latvia visa. Book your own appointment, one per person, and complete the online form yourself so you receive a unique code.
What bank documents does Germany ask from Filipinos?
For tourism, the Embassy asks for an original bank certificate and bank statements for the last 6 months, with the account opening date and average balance shown. Employed applicants add a work contract, salary credit statements and approved leave. Self-employed applicants add business registration, tax returns and six months of statements.
Do I need a flight ticket for a Schengen visa from the Philippines?
No paid ticket is needed before the decision. Germany asks for a matching itinerary and hotels; the Netherlands asks for a travel reservation in your name. A BookForVisa reservation has a real PNR, costs $15 per person, stays valid 48-72 hours and allows free date changes on the booking day only.
How long does a Schengen visa take from the Philippines?
Germany says about 15 calendar days from the application day. Apply at least 15 days and no more than 6 months before travel. France-Visas and NetherlandsWorldwide use the same 15-day minimum window. Book early for summer holidays and Christmas travel periods, when Manila and Cebu appointment slots fill up quickly.
Friendly reminder: BookForVisa prepares flight and hotel reservations to support visa applications and onward-travel proof. Requirements vary by destination, consulate, visa category and applicant situation. A reservation supports your file; it is not a paid ticket for travel and does not guarantee visa approval or entry.
